We have just started to use a new communication system called ParentSquare. The program is operational and connected to the Aeries Parent Portal. We will be providing training and an official launch date of Monday, August 30th 2021. Training will be available online and in-person at our Back-to-School Nights. Your school sites will be providing further details and can help you if you have questions about your Aeries parent portal. You can also download the ParentSquare or StudentSquare App for your phone. Just a reminder that each high school has a website with school information. They are all linked to the district website at www.sisuhsd.net, under schools.
Dear Families of Happy Camp, McCloud, Mount Shasta and Weed High Schools,
Welcome to the 2021-22 school year, a year of recovery, restoration and re-engagement for our students, staff, families and communities. We are excited to have a variety of new financial resources available, new staff joining us, and our highly qualified returning staff all available to welcome our students and families back to school. Collectively, we will reimagine and build a bright and promising future.
To recover, we will restore and re-engage our students and families by:
Welcoming our staff, students and families back to fully opened and prepared schools.
Establishing effective lines of communication with all staff, students, families, and communities.
Focusing on relationships and the connections that help anchor our students and families to their schools and communities.
Investing in our staff to build new curriculum and student engagement strategies.
Promoting our successes and the tremendous work of our students and staff.
For the 2021-22 school year, students will have the choice of two educational options. Full inperson school or Independent Studies/Siskiyou Pathways Academy. If you are interested in our Independent Studies program, please talk to your school site administrator and register by completing the online Independent Studies Request Application.
As we work through the elements of the COVID 19 Pandemic that have an impact on our schools, we will continue to maintain the safety of our students, staff, and families as our top priority. At this time we are reviewing the California Department of Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools and Cal OSHA Workplace Standards and we are developing our opening plans accordingly. The two documents below outline the current opening planning that I will have the board review and approve at our August 11th board meeting. All guidance indicates that masks will be required for all staff and students while indoors on school campuses. The County Office of Education is also requiring masks be worn by all employees unless they are in a work space alone.
We are proposing the following bell schedules for the 2021-22 school year. Because we are going to be sharing staff and programs across the district in a variety of methods, we have a need to maintain a common bell schedule for all schools. We are proposing the following schedule that includes a 45 minute advisory period on Mondays and a rotating 1-4 and 5-8 schedule for Mondays. Weed, McCloud, and Happy Camp are proposing to start the Advisory period for the 21-22 school year. Mount Shasta is proposing to implement the Advisory Period for the 22-23 school year (using the 21-22 school year to develop specific plans for the advisory period).
The Advisory period will be used to conduct schoolwide lessons and activities in the following areas:
Grade and progress monitoring
College and Career Exploration and Planning
Social Emotional Learning Activities
School wide recognitions, assemblies, and enrichment activities
